Jana Wernerová
artistic director of the theater, dramaturge, actress, author
Jana Wernerová studied acting at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica in 2003 in the class of Jozef Adamovič and Jan Přeučil. During her studies, she guest starred at BDNR in Banská Bystrica, DJGT in Zvolen, and Actores Theater in Rožňava. After graduating, she got a job at DJZ in Prešov, but soon traded her steady monthly salary for uncertain creative freedom.
In 2005, she and her colleagues founded the independent theater NA PERÓNE in Košice, where she still works as artistic director, director, actress, screenwriter, and project manager. All these professions combine to make her the versatile theater artist she wanted to be since childhood. She has traveled the world with the theater, and audiences have seen the theater's original productions at festivals in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, France, England, Sweden, Bulgaria, Germany, and Off-Broadway in New York. Since 2008, she has been involved in many productions, international site-specific theater performances, and several independent productions in Prague as a writer, actress, and director.
In 2020, after years spent in residencies at contemporary culture centers, the NA PERÓNE theater opened its permanent space and began to take on a new look. This is also linked to the theater's new dramaturgy and directorial poetics, which Wernerová most often creates in tandem with her life partner Peter Kočiš.
